Separate activity from outcome

A workshop or distribution count does not alone establish lasting change. State what happened, what is known about the result and the period and source behind figures. Do not replace an unmeasured outcome with an invented percentage.

Use consent and a balanced portrayal

Show people’s choices and contribution, not only their needs. Agree appropriate use of their story and image. Staff, materials and process can explain a program when identifying participants is unsuitable.

Example: a skills program

Explain the intended participants, content and participation. Use documented attendance and an authorized qualitative observation. Distinguish one participant’s view from a finding about everyone. A human story can remain honest about its evidence.

Clarify participation

For volunteering, registration or support, explain what happens next and who follows up. Connect the invitation to a current program. Update registration status when activities end instead of leaving expired calls to action visible.
